Kind of obvious isn’t it? Above is a shot taken during Carnivale in front of the Basilica of San Marco. To the right is a shot taken from the same vantage point without my friend, Valerie, in much warmer weather and with far less of a crowd!
I must say the Palazzo San Marco is far more exciting and invigorating during Carnivale. While still beautiful what really stood out for me this time were the over-priced restaurants, shops and souvenir vendors lining the Palazzo and the boardwalk along the Mediterranean. Not to say we didn’t enjoy ourselves but we discovered the beauty of Venice in the side streets, outdoor cafes and small shops far away from the tourist traps…er, historical sites.
Venice is full of wonderful nooks and crannies. Tons of angles and windows and shadows and gondoliers propelling themselves through small channels. It is a photographer’s dream and we certainly took advantage of it! I’m all about quantity and Craig is quality when it comes to photo taking so between the two of us we will have some wonderful memories…and pictures to post…so I’m off to start editing pictures! Keep checking back. I promise to share!!
p.s. A special shout-out to Kelly…we found a wonderful surprise in our mailbox! Hugs to you for thinking about us!!!
